This photobook, Satellites, is by Jonas Bendiksen, a Norwegian photographer who became the president of the Magnum Photos collective at the young age of 33. After interning at Magnum and moving to Russia, he began working as a photojournalist, capturing images of people and isolated communities in the former Soviet Union. The cover photo depicts a white butterfly fluttering in a lush natural setting, alongside the remnants of a satellite rocket and people. However, the satellite is highly toxic and poses a risk of environmental contamination in the region. On the other hand, it is also a valuable economic resource for scrap metal dealers, making it difficult to dispose of easily. Bendiksen's first photobook captures this complex environment with a journalistic perspective and exceptional artistry.

The cover and top and bottom edges have some wear and tear from when I bought it in New York over 10 years ago.
