John McLaughlin’s Electric Guitarist, released in 1978 through Columbia Records, is his 4th solo album and a return to electric jazz-rock fusion after three years of acoustic work with his Indian-influenced group Shakti. The album features a stellar lineup of jazz and fusion luminaries, including Billy Cobham, Chick Corea, Jack DeJohnette, Carlos Santana, David Sanborn, Stanley Clarke, Jack Bruce, and others. It was produced by McLaughlin with Dennis MacKay and later remastered for a 1990 CD release as part of the Columbia Jazz Contemporary Masters series.
