Marla is a 23-inch gessoed and painted one-of-a-kind cloth doll by Canadian doll artist Jeanne Kathryn Morrow of Portrait Dollings. Using layers of paint, the doll's cloth has a leather-like appearance. The hand-painted facial features are very realistic. The doll's soft black curls are adorned with two handmade peach satin ribbons that match the color of the sheer peach dress that has a peach satin waist sash and a peach underskirt. The dress hem is ironed under, but the artist did not stitch it. The white cloth, teddy-bear jointed body serves as a one-piece undergarment. White lace-trimmed ankle socks and black felt Mary Jane-style shoes complete the clothing. Marla holds a wooden thumb sucking doll with a floral cloth security blanket.
Marla is hand-signed, numbered, and dated by the artist and is the 70th one-of-a-kind doll of this type created by the artist. At doll #104, Morrow discontinued making this type of doll.
